THE FOUNDATION

Fondazione Sanità e Ricerca is a non-profit organization with headquarters in Rome that operates in the fields of health and social care.

This Foundation has a Palliative Care Centre for patients with neurodegenerative diseases (30 inpatients and 120 home patients) and a Care Centre for patients who are partially, temporarily or completely dependent on others for their care, specialized in Amyotrophic Later Sclerosis (the facility also has a ward for ALS patients, who may be admitted periodically in order to benefit from pain relief) and in Alzheimer's disease (Alzheimers's Day Centre for the rehabilitation and preservation of cognitive and functional skills and home care).

The outpatient palliative care and pain management unit takes care of patients with chronic pain secondary to cancer, osteoarthritic and nervous system degeneration and peripheral vasculopathies.  The outpatients department for Pain Management and Palliative Care represents a landmark for the protection patients’ right to relieve pain and distress.

Fondazione Roma opened the hospice (the first in Central-Southern Italy) in 1998.

The Palliative Care, ALS and Alzheimer’s services adopt an integrated care model tailored to meet the patients’ physical, psychological and spiritual needs and their families are trained to develop coping skills.

The Foundation performs research by collaborating with centres of excellence for the development of innovative projects.

Fondazione Sanità e Ricerca is accredited by the Regional Health Service and the services are free of charge; the support of Fondazione Roma - a Roman historic private body - grants free cares for all the patients assisted.
